When Mascoe began producing coating machinery
it was a very limited segment of the textile industry with only
upholestry being the one consistent product that required a backcoating.
Over the years the industry began to see a wider need for coated
products and began to demand a better coating machine. In the early 1980's Mascoe developed the "System 4" coating machine. It offered a wide range of standard features that helped eliminate problems that had plagued the coating industry for years. Today the Mascoe "System 4" coater is utilized in almost every segment of coating and continues to be upgraded to meet the changing needs of the coating industry. Following are features that are standard on all "System 4" coaters: 1. Patented Automatic Seam Pass: The Automatic Seam Pass feature allows seams to pass at the knife automatically without operator input or signal input from a detection device. The system can handle most reasonable seams without any disruption to coating. 2. Three Position Coating: Most of Mascoe's coating machines have a minimum of three different coating positions incorporated into the machine. The type of machine determines the types of coating positions. This gives the user added flexibility to produce different types of end products. 3. Patented Automatic Trough System: This is one of the most unique features of the "System 4" coaters. The Automatic Trough System(ATS) is a chemical retaining trough with an adjustable gap opening. This opening gives added flexibility for coating since the penetration rates can be controlled by more than just the knife position. The ATS can also receive a start/stop signal from a tenter range that will close the trough when the range stops and reopen when the range starts. This added feature can reduce chemical by as much as 50% in some cases. It also aids in machine clean up. 4. Series 4000 Control System: In 1994 all "System 4" coaters were remodeled and updated. The Series 4000 Control System was added at the time to provide an easier means of operator interface as well as increase the repeatability factor. The new system replaced the handwheel movement system and dial indicators with push button movement and digital readout of all movable functions. Since then the system continues to be upgraded with the latest digital technology. There are several other features which are standard to the Mascoe "System 4" coater. All features are designed to aid in repeatability from one run to the another as well as minimize the amount of cleaning time required.
